The wind... it's coming to get you!
12:06 p.m. - 2004-01-22

Today, the wind was like a diabolical presence following me around.

It never quite stopped... it was always nipping at the ankles, making sure that you remembered that it was there and could bring you to your knees at any second.

Then, the wind would get angry, because of your feeble attempts to ignore it and the loss of feeling in all your extremities. And it would blow. Lo, it would blow. And all the sudden the winter coat was but a thin, hole-y rag that could do nothing, and the jeans were as effective as mosquito netting, and the shoes and the socks combined were far too thin to have any effect... against the wind.

The wind would quiet again. Blowing gently into your face, reminding you that it could explode again at any minute, with no provocation whatsoever.

Then, you escaped. Inside, where hands and legs and arms and feet and even ears! all had feeling. And it was warm. And it was good.

But, as you came near to the end of the indoor path, a sudden wave of cold hit you again. And you knew that it was waiting for you to come outside again, and this time, there would be no slacking of the wind. You hunched over again, and pulled up the pitifully thin hood that may save you from frostbite, and stepped outside again.

Oh, how the wind roared! It bit and stung! It tore through the clothes and numbed what was underneath in mere seconds.

You merely hunched, and walked even faster.

The wind shouted and came from a different direction. Then moved again and came at you even harder.

You were almost there, you could almost see through your tearing eyes...

The wind pushed you back from the door! Snarling viciously, it dared you to be stronger than it.

And you pushed through it, and to the door.

Ah, safe at last. Warmth and tingling skin overtakes you, and as you sit down in class, you realize-- you still have to get back home!
