I am terrified of where this country is heading.
Once again, Bush is trying to take away people’s constitutional rights. I wish I lived in the D.C. area, so I could join the protest. The direction that this country is headed in is scaring me more and more. What frightens me even more is the fact that there are people in this country who support what Bush is doing. People like my mother.
Mom is what is called “a member of the religious right”. I don’t see how Christians can honestly believe that this is what “God” wants them to do.
God gave people choice—this is the central message of the doctrine. Sure, this resulted in Adam and Eve being thrown out of Mesopotamia, but God still allowed them free choice to do what they wanted with their lives and their bodies.
Now, the FCC, and horrible conservatives like Bush are trying to do what GOD would not, in God’s name, no less. “This is wrong!” they say. "Women shouldn’t be able to choose what happens to their bodies! Gays shouldn’t have the same rights as straight people have everywhere in the world! Rights for people are wrong… people should only be able to do what we tell them they can do.”
When does it cross the line? When do we become the Nazi States of America (my apologies to Germany for having to use that example)?
When does it become okay to put people in jail for being gay (which has already happened in some states, with some being caught committing “sodomy”), the only legal way of having sex being missionary position, birth control becoming illegal, all people who live in the U.S. being required to be “Christian”, etc? When does it become okay for the government to monitor everyone’s activities, without reason? (For the last one, if the Patriot Act were to pass, much sooner than you might think.)
I think things have already gone too far. And while Bush is “pro-life” people die everyday in Iraq, because of a stupid war that he should not have started.
I am honestly scared, and I know that this is just an inarticulate outburst of everything I fear that is coming, but I’m just going to put it out there anyway, before we lose the right to free speech.
And on a lighter note, don’t forget to vote for disco!
That's right, a two entry day!
