A girl sings while walking to class, and I rattle a tin cup. Beseechingly. (Also, figuratively.)
Have you ever seen one of those people who are walking along singing to themselves? Like, loud enough that you can not only hear but also understand them? I saw one of those today.
I always wonder if they think, “Hey, I’ll just be walking around singing, and maybe one of my fellow students will turn to me and say, ‘Oh, you are just the voice I’ve been looking for. I’ve been merely posing as a student, lo, these past few months, searching for someone with the voice and the bravery to sing while walking towards the student center. Here, please, sign this $5 million dollar contract to [major recording studio of their choice]!’” I mean, seriously, what do they think about?
Mind you, the person I saw wasn’t even wearing earphones and singing along. She was just singing. Walking and singing. Singing and walking as she went to class. Not so loud that it was obnoxious, but definitely audible from 10 feet away. Without earphones or any sort of music! It was really strange. The above scenario was the only one that I could think of, but that doesn’t seem too likely either. Why would she do that?
All the people who I’ve ever heard sing in public (other than, you know, church-y stuff and concerts, duh) were people who were singing alone with the music playing in their headphones, and about ¾ of those people are tone-deaf, it seems. You never hear anybody singing alone with their headphones that actually sounds good, have you noticed?
Her voice was okay. She was wearing a red sweat suit. It was hard to tell how good her voice was, though, because she wasn’t all that loud. Almost like she knew she was violating a social norm, and was embarrassed, but was going to sing anyway. Peculiar.
Any theories?

Also, might I remind you of the iPods? You know you wanna. *Rattles tin cup beseechingly*
