I go to the gym, and get a workout. Most of which wasn't achived inside the gym.
Oy vey! I am not very update-y, aye? Sorry about that. I did have a few entry ideas over the past few weeks, but they were all involving the weather. And I thought three (count them: 3) consecutive entries about the weather, cementing Saint Louisians whiny-ness about bad weather-um-ness would be too much. So, I just didn't post at all. Yeah.
So, what is today's no-doubt-facinating entry about? The gym! Yes, I am original. There are no diaries on diaryland at all right now that ever talk about the gym. Especially that second one.
But this was my first trip to the gym at UM-sl where I actually went inside. (The first time I headed over there, I realized it was a very very long, hilly walk, so I walked there, looked at the building for a minute, and then walked back). This time, I took the campus shuttle (which is such a good idea! Except, of course, it doesn't head two ways. Therefore... the ride to the gym takes 2-3 minutes. If I were to ride back, it would take, oh, 45-50 minutes) there, from the SSB building. It is actually quite nice inside the shuttle-- it even has a tv, and cushy seats, and such! So, I got to the gym, and wandered around with my finger inserted into my nose (metaphorically) for 15 minutes, because I had no idea where to go. Then I found the walking track! Woo hoo! That lead me to the woman's locker room! Yeah! And, guess what? They have shower curtains!
(I seriously thought I wrote about this in here, but I guess not. So, here is why I mentioned that they have shower curtains: when I took swimming at meramec a few semesters ago, I freaked out because they didn't have shower curtains on the showers, not to mention those huge communal showers with, like, 10 shower heads in one "room". This made my modest little self extremely uncomfortable, and I would have dropped the class if I could have found another P.E. that fit my schedule. So, long story short, I eventually learned that every girl in that class is self conscious about being naked in front of other people (Like, eww! Girlie bits!), and no one was looking at and judging other girls bodies, at least not obviously. We were all just trying to get clean and dressed as quickly as possible. I'm not bothered by stripping in locker rooms anymore, sometimes you don't have time, and just getting dressed quickly is what takes precidence. But now I have the option of hiding my naked-tidity! I will most likely take this option. I still am modest, after all.)
So, I changed into my baggy work-out shirt, and put my junk in a locker, and then I left. I completed my lap on the walking track, and discovered the fitness center, and that I needed my i.d. So, I went back to the locker room, and got it. But no one ever asked me for it. So, by this time I didn't have much time left before I had to change back and head back to SSB, so I rode a bicycle for 15 minutes, and then headed back to the locker room, where I changed and did some stretching.
Then, I prepared for the long cold journey back to SSB.
I didn't mention this, but the fitness center is on the "basement" floor of the gym. I had to go up two flights to be on the floor I came in on. Then I crossed the street and went uphill. For about half a mile. That was no problem. I finally arrived at SSB. Up the stairs outside. They are steep, and plentiful. I get to the top, panting. I enter, and realize that I have another .three. .flights. .of. .stairs. to go up before I will be on the floor that I leave from. I climb. I gasp. I finally get to the top, and have a celebratory drink from the water fountain. Down a few steps to get outside. Up about half a flight to get to CH. Up another flight to get to the right floor in CH. And I am finally at Trig. It took me another 5 minutes to breath with something approaching normalacy. I definitely think it would be good to leave 30 minutes traveling time from the gym. 20 minutes travel... ten minutes to breath. At least I got some extra cardio!
